Finding colon cancer early
When my column didn't appear one day last week, the little note to readers said I was on vacation. That was true, but I was also taking care of something that was long overdue - getting checked for signs of colon cancer. I'm not at high risk. No one in my family that I know of has ever had cancer of the colon or rectum. But I didn't care. Around the time I turned 50, I had some unusual pains in the floor of my lower abdomen - three or four over two to three weeks. They hardly lasted a second, but they were sharp. When I reported them to my family doctor, he sent me off to a gastroenterologist, a specialist in diseases of the digestive system. Back then, I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy, an internal exam of the lowest segment of the large intestine.
Bringing Up The Rear (Total Body-Lift)
Kudos to anyone who has lost a large amount of weight (say more than 75 pounds). You have accomplished a difficult goal. Now your years of struggling and failed diets are behind you. Perhaps you did it through weight-loss surgery. Or perhaps it was the more traditional way, through diet and exercise. However you did it, you deserve a new body as a reward for all your hard work. Following substantial weight loss, you will typically have multiple areas of significant excess skin, including the breasts, upper arms, abdomen, back and thighs. Areas can be tightened and redundant skin can be removed in the form of a breast lift, upper arm lift, tummy tuck, lower body lift and thigh lift, respectively. You may also be a candidate for facial cosmetic surgery including neck re-contouring and face-lifts.
Almonds are a good source of vitamins, minerals and protein
Have you enjoyed a handful of almonds today? Seventy percent of the world's almonds are produced by Californian almond farmers. The world's largest almond processing plant is in Sacramento, with an average daily production figure of two million pounds of almonds! Forty percent of the world's annual almond production is purchased by chocolate candy manufacturers on an international scale. Almonds are California's largest tree nut crop in total acreage and total dollar value. We have more than six thousand almond growers and one-hundred-fifteen almond processors in our state. Therefore, it is no surprise that the almonds I sprinkled on my dessert at lunch today came from Stockton! .
